This rustic cafe is great for lunch, especially. The salads and sandwiches are always tasty. There is a small outdoor patio, but the summer heat can be a bit oppressive at times. The interior area consists of a large bar, tables, and an attached wine and gift area. It's popular with locals and lots of tourists...try to go a bit earlier or later to beat the crowds.
Romantic cafe with great food. This cafe is wonderfully romantic. The place is beautifully decorated with bright lights and a fireplace. The wall is lined with all sorts of wine. The paella is an excellent meal to share for two and also happens to be a great deal! I'd also recommend the brie cheese. This is a great place to take a date!
Cozy restaurant to top off a day of wine tasting. I just spent the weekend in Solvang for my bachelorette party and this restaurant came highly recommended! It was incredible! We had a party of 10 girls and our seating was prompt, the atmosphere is incredible and the food was delicious. Everyone loved their meals! The waitstaff is very attentive. It's just a cool, laid-back but classy atmosphere. I will definitely go back!
Relaxed wine-shop-attached and patio dining for locals, "Sideways" fans and oenophiles in search of solid California cuisine with Mediterranean influences..
In Short
First established in 1995, this tiny cafe expanded in 2001 to introduce the neighboring Wine Merchant store. The rustic setting features rows of bottles on one side, with natural woods and white tablecloths on the other, and a raised, glassed-in fireplace in the middle. The foliage-covered patio is an ideal respite for wine-loving locals and destination tasters. Popular dishes include thin-crust pizzas, sauteed wild salmon and hand-rolled gnocchi. Regulars swear by the "cafe scream" for dessert, a flourless chocolate cake with homemade vanilla ice cream.
Is this really located in a town populated by 1,000 people?!?!?!?.
Hands down, for my first trip to CA and my husband's maiden return after 9 years, this was by far THE BEST food experience we had...and all this located in small and VERY quaint town! The quality of food, the service, the ambience, the price and the location were FABULOUS!!!!!!! One word of warning....the seafood paella feeds MORE THAN 2!!!!! Try 3-4 comfortably. We started with the rustic spread appetizer which was comprised of an olive tampenade, an artichoke spread and a VERY good hummus served with toasted crostini.
The patio area was the best I've been to because while the temps were very cool, they had heating units out there which made it very comfortable. We noticed large parties there as well, and many left with smiles on their face. This, combined with the quaintness of the town, the white lights interwoven in the arching vine-like trees, the quality of food and the lack of pretentious service make this a top recommendation time and time again...whether you're there on a romantic dinner or to celebrate with a large group.
BEST Lunch Spot in Wine Area. I've been to Los Olivos numerous times on our wine-tasting trips. Their food is great. Last time I was there my boyfriend and I ordered the potato onion soup, a hamburger, a marguerite pizza, and a salad -- all superb! This the best place to have lunch in Los Olivos.
Executive Chef.
What a great experience! It had been recommended to me for quite some time and I finally made it in during a weekend of wine tasting.
Lunch was superb! I had a difficult time deciding what to order because of the wonderful selection, (very talented chef). I stuck with the saddle of free range rabbit stuffed with black trumpet mushrooms served with rosemary scented cannellini beans and crispy yam chips. The light sauce was made from the roasted rabbit bones with marsala. My partner enjoyed the local favorite 'Roasted Vegetable Sandwich' with pesto on toasted foccacia. We purchased a mixed case of wine from the merchant side of the restaurant and made reservations for dinner that night. Forever on my list!
