A J Spurs Saloon & Restraunt. Always come here when visisting our cousin who lives in Lompoc. The food is excellent and the atmosvere is very fun. Love all the animals from the old west that are all around the restraunt. Love the buffaloo. The wait can be long if you come late. It is best to make a reservation. The steaks are very tender and full of flavor. If you do not want the root beer float or lequir you can get get a scoop of ice cream with choclate syrup. Will always come here when in town.

Soup is on.... It was very crowded so instead of waiting an hour for a table INside, we opted for a table OUTside in their patio in half the time. We got our drinks & soup/beans/salsa right away, took our order right away but it took what seemed like forever to get our food. They forgot my side order of shrimp so another 1/2 hour for that. We were done with our main dishes by the time I got those so I took them to go. They tossed in a free side of rice pilaf as a 'sorry' for forgetting the shrimp. Aside from taking a long time to get our food.... the quality of the food was VERY good! Might be a good idea to get more help on a busy Friday night.

Quality Has Declined.. We have always used to Love AJ Spurs. It was a great place to eat.

The new problems we experienced last time:

The soup that they give you comes with beans. They used to be black beans, but now now they are just mushy pinto beans. The taste gross in the soup.

The other thing is they potatoes they give you. They are cooking with onions. Last time, the potatoes were just scraps and there were way more onions.

Finally, the root beer float. It has been cut in size by about half.

I'm very disappointed in AJ Spurs.

disappointing steak house. Buellton was a convenient stopping place on our way up the coast so we chose to stay there, also giving us the opportunity to visit Solvang. Of course thanks to "Sideways" we attempted to go to The Hitching Post restaurant but it was closed. A. J. Spurs was almost next door so went there instead. The wait was long, perhaps because the Hitching Post was closed, but after having waited for a while we asked if we could be seated in the bar and get the same menu and we could. I don't know why we were not told that before since the bar had plenty of availability. The atmosphere was typically ersatz western. The food was plentiful but mediocre. The service was average. Sure, we walked out with enough to eat, but for the price we felt that food should have been better. There must be better restaurants around there. We probably should have gone into one of the towns and tried out a restaurant there instead, which is what we will do if we stay in Buellton again.

Expensive, crowded, food ok.. This establishment thrives off of it's ambience, it has the best decor of any other place on the central coast. However if your looking for a great cooked steak and side dishes than I feel you may not be totally satisfied. The meals are very expensive. That would be ok if you were getting piping hot, tender steaks, but that isn't what we normally experience from them. They skimp on their sides and it takes too long to get more to the table. The last few times the potatoes were dried-out. Actually the last visit we were told it would be 45 minutes to be seated we left after an hour and twenty minutes. It seems to be alot of hassle for just average food, but then again the mounted bull heads and full figure bears are really cool!

Little town - BIG food. AJ Spurs is one of the few non-Danish restaurants in the local area. If you're familiar with the abundance of servings at the restaurant chain "Claim Jumpers" then you'll understand what I mean by "BIG" food. Every meal comes with complimentary "stew" that's brought to your table immediately...regardless if you want it or not. It comes with a few condiments that allow you to "customize" your chicken stew. It was fun and tasty. Every entree I saw in the dinining room could easily feed two people. I barely made a dent in my steak...and didn't even touch the community cast iron pan of "fries". If you're ever in the Santa Ynez area...not just Buellton proper...make your way to AJ Spurs and endure the wait at dinner time. It's definitely worth it. Oh...did I mention each meal ends with a complimentary rootbeer float...or after dinner liquer?

Some Tastey Grub. Went here over the Presidents Day weekend. All the food was very tasty. They start you off with a flavorful beef stew and black beans (really they're pinto beans in some kind of black sauce), then a fresh salad and then your entree. My girlfriend had rib eye - tender, juicy and delicious. I had the filet mignon and Canadian lobster tail - again super tender and delicious. Then its root beer floats or if you prefer a liqueur for desert. The vanilla ice cream in the float was killer. Not a very romantic place with all the noise and dead animals on the walls but if you want some tasty grub, itll do.
