We always visit Xanadu when vacationing in Santa Barbara. The omelettes with French cheese and tomato are wonderful. I love all of the fruit that accompanies breakfast, too. The pastries here are fabulous. You can gain weight just by looking!! They allow our dog to join us on the patio which always makes our dining more enjoyable when we are traveling. Highly recommend Xanadu!

This place is pretty good - under $10 for a decent breakfast. I had a tomato and french cheese omelet and it was great. It came with a ton of fruit and choice of toast. I also had a pain au chocolat which was good.

Moldy cake!. A friend of mine purchased a birthday cake at Xanadu on April 7th, 2009 to bring to a birthday party I attended that same evening. Once we cut into the cake we could see ribbons of greenish-blue throughout the entire cake! We were not sure if the ribbons were mold however, and thought they must be blueberries. My friend took one bite of the cake and unfortunately discovered it was indeed MOLD!!! And the cake had been purchased not more than a couple hours ago from Xanadu!

While my friend spent the day battling the mold's effects, two of my friends contacted Xanadu regarding the cake. The bakery's explanation was that the clerk must have grabbed the wrong cake from the refrigerator - apparently, cakes over a couple days old are put in the refrigerator and saved to donate to the homeless (!) - I'm not sure which is worse - knowingly selling an old, most likely moldy, cake, or thinking it's perfectly OK to donate a moldy cake to the homeless? It's appalling either way and I refuse to ever set foot in Xanadu again.

One of the best.. This truly is one of the best places to eat in Santa Barbara. The food is soooo good and fairly priced. You get a generous amount of food no matter what you order and it is ready almost before you sit down. I have made it a habit to try and go at least once a week to try a new goody (the poppy seed rolls are addicting)! The staff is refreshingly young and friendly and the owner remembered me after I had only there twice. It is the type of place that makes you feel like family instantly. It can get pretty packed on the weekends so I would recommend stopping by on your way to work in the morning.

Deplorable attitude and customer service. These people are not French and have the worst attitude in the world. I've tried to give them several chances and will never go there again either. The girl at the counter was rolling her eyes and when I complained to the owner, she was even worse. Don't go there. They don't deserve business. Try Renaud's in Santa Barbara if you want croissants. The almond is soooo excellent! Thank God there's an alternative now!

An embarrisment to the profession.. I purchased two pastries, which were old and dry. I was not allowed compensation and was disrespected by the counter help and the owner to the most unprofessional degree. I've never experienced anything like this before. Customers make paydays possible and it is a wonder that this shop makes any money at all in respect to the way they treat there clientele. I will never step foot in the place and encourage others to keep clear. What's in the glass case may look enticing, but is a false product.

Good breakfast and not expensive!. Great pastries and food! Recommend for good food for locals, not the place for tourists. There are more restaurants on State or Cabrillo for a tourist breakfast.
