What People Are Saying About Old Mission Santa Barbara

In Short – It's rare to find a State Historic Monument that is still in use--and for its original purpose--but that's the case with Old Mission, Santa Barbara. Built in the 18th century and founded on December 4, 1786, the mission has been functioning as a place of worship for over 200 years. As the 10th mission built by the Spanish Franciscans, the mission is closely tied to California history, including that of the Chumash Indians who inhabited the area.

- The Extras:
- Guided tours are available with an appointment, but you can wander through the mission and its lush grounds on your own during daytime hours.
DO NOT GET MARRIED THERE!!

Nice Museum, but NOT a place to get married. The staff are terribly rude and miserable people.
Fabulous views of the ocean

Recently visited here from L.A. and Ioved the views from the steps of the mission -- so gorgeous to look out onto the huge expanse of trees and ocean. The museum itself is a walk thru history but it's always kind of weird when things like Virgin Mary plaster statues -- that were probably made in China -- are up for sale.
- Pros: Location, history
- Cons: Not sure
