I am fairly new to this club its extremely clean and for the most part a really nice gym. If you are going for training sessions I would make sure you get some info on what trainer they are placing you with and how long they have been there, etc. They also have different trainer levels which I was unaware of until recently. If you want a really good, professional and PROMPT trainer ask for Alisha, she is AWESOME! Can't say enough good things about her!
Fantastic fitness facility in Santa Barbara.
I live in Baltimore most of the year, but have a condo in Santa Barbara that my wife and I return to 2-4 times a year for R & R. In Fall 2007 I joined Spectrum Uptown as a full-time member while on sabbatical in S.B. and was a regular user of the facility which I found to be very well run, consistently clean and orderly and very friendly. I also got to know Lisa and Cindy who helped me set up an active membership for Fall 2007 and an inexpensive inactive status for me while I was away from S.B. The inactive status could easily be reactivated for longer return trips, and this made it extremely convenient for me to come and go and still have access to the fitness facilities when I was in town. Thanks Cindy!
During our recent trip back to S.B. from the East Coast over the winter holiday break (Xmas through New Years plus a couple of days in Jan.), I was wonderfully surprised by the expanded facilities at the Uptown Spectrum. There are more cardio machines (the most recent models), plenty of access to weights and strength machines, and a convenient layout upstairs that seems to have tripled the available space and machines. What is most impressive is that Cindy and Lisa still provide wonderfully personalize service (I was greeted by "Hi Phil" by each of them -- on separated days -- even after a six-month hiatus in my use of the facilities), and was impressed by the layout and design of the renovated facilities. Lots of windows upstairs, additional bathrooms, a small but comfortable sitting area (good for cell phone conversations away from the machines), and above all, spotlessly clean -- and kept that way day in and day out all day by Luis and the other members of the the maintenance and facilities crew. Thanks guys. It is always a delight to workout there.

Great customer service!. Spectrum Uptown is the best club in SB. Cindy and her staff are friendly and always make me feel welcome. Thank you for your professional service!
Best health club in town. Cindy and her staff are the most professional health club staff I have seen. The club is a great place to work out. whether you are young or old. The equipment is in great order and the place is CLEAN. My wife loves the classes and my 5 year old loves the Kids Club. The staff is always friendly, there are always clean towels, and the clientele first class. Javier, who signed us up is extremely passionate about health and has bent over backwards to make sure my family is enjoying our membership. There is plenty of room and equipment. It allows me to get in, do my workout and get out quickly. Kudos to Cindy for doing a great job and as a bonus, she is a sweetheart!
great gym with two locations. When pushed to my bandwidth on UC frat riff raff, I finally listened to my co-workers and visited the Spectrum club. I found it difficult to leave my gym, 24, because I had been a member for over 9 years, but it was the best thing to do. The atmoshpere is better and the club is cleaner. I never thought of these issues before, so not to knock my old gym, I just wanted something better and I was willing to pay for it. I actually enjoy my workouts more and the spectrum club has a second location in walking distance from my office. These are great gyms. If you are looking for a better place to workout, go see it, you will be very surprised.
Membership does have it's priviledges, especially at Spectrum Uptown.
Hats off to Cindy and the crew at Spectrum Uptown in Santa Barbara. They are constantly working to make our club the very best it can be. This week I enjoyed the newly reconstructed sauna, while my wife worked out on one of the many new cardio machines that have just arrived.
If you enjoy taking classes, please try Spinning. Bob's a great leader on Sunday's and we also enjoy working with Wendell and Frank. Be careful...these classes will really get you in shape.
One thing which stands out to us both is the cleanliness factor. It seems like they have people on staff at all timess working to keep the place clean, orderly and sanitary. I'm not a clean freak...but....it really does make a tremendous difference.
Finally, when you have any questions about the club, the staff is always there with a smile and ready to help. It's especially nice when they learn your name and remember who you are.
If you're in the market for a club, I suggest you stop by ASAP. Ask the manager, Cindy, for a week's pass so you can check it our for yourself.
Way to go Cindy and team Spectrum Uptown!!!
Friendly staff. I have found all the employees at Spectrum to be knowledgable, helpful and friendly. At certain times, it is very quiet and condusive to a good workout. The equipment is relatively new and is clean. They also read and implement suggestions such as banning cell phones in the gym.
Amazing customer/member service!.
I've been a member of Gold's Gym in Santa Barbara since 1990, and am still a member as it's Spectrum. The club has always had very good member relations, and I've worked out at all 3 clubs and found generally excellent service.
But one person, General Manager Cindy Capra, is head and shoulders above anyone I've dealt with in over 16 years! Her level of compassion, caring and friendliness is the highest I've experienced at Gold's/Spectrum. She's the kind of person who will bend over backwards to to solve your problem, to help you in any way she can. She has done so for me in a big way, and for others.
Plus, she is just damn fun to be around! Because of Cindy, I will begin working out more Uptown, even though I'm used to Downtown...it's worth it to be around her!
This is a gem, and I hope she stays awhile!
Get Payed to Play!.
My expiercince at the Uptown location was outstanding. For starters the front desk staff greeted me with an genuine enthusiastic smile. And engaged me with a question that I still ask myself everytime I go into the club and workout. " Are you getting paid to workout? Are you earning Your Health Miles with todays workout?
So I asked Dan the young man at the front desk what he meant by getting paid to workout. Maybe he was offering me a job?
Turns out Dan was not offering me a job but an amazing opportunity to cash in on all of my daily activities. Spectrum is the first Athletic Club to offer a "activity based rewards program" that pays you for maintaining a healthy and proactive lifestyle. I was floored by the opportunity to actually earn money, rewards and free personal training for doing what I should already be doing. Not only does Spectrum Uptown have a caring and engaging staff , an award winning Group X program and the most cutting edge equipment in town, they now have the first of its kind in Virgin Life Health Miles Reward Program. I look forward to all my workouts because I know that not only am I seeing results but at the end of the day I am getting payed to do what I already love to do, workout and reap the benefits of living big in lovely Santa Barbara. I recommend Spectrum Uptown to all my family and friends who are ready for a engaging workout expierence.
A GREAT GYM EXPERIENCE! EVERYTHING I NEEDED AND MUCH MORE!.
I've been away from the gym for a while and was pleasantly surprised how comfortable and supportive everyone made me feel. It's hard to get back to a regular routine but knowing I had such encouragement made me it much easier! Thanks Spectrum and especially Cindy Capra who helped to motivate me so much :)
