Tips for Kabuki Japanese Restaurant

Best Sushi in So California. In California I can count on one hand the suburb quality of food and Kabuki's is one of them. To me, each bite is an exqusite experience and though we live 90 miles away, we plan our trip in such a way to stop by Kabuki's for lunch. It is a small town atmosphere and charming small torn service with world class food. Kabiki's has become to us, the sushi restautrant by which we measure all others.

Terrible atmosphere & long wait for a casual dining expreience. First of all I have mixed thoughts, the food is well presented, one of the waitresess was excellent, but the food was mediocre, the wait is far beyond necessity and the atmosphere is nasty. I had one waitress (younger latina) acknowledge us and advise us it would be 10 - 15 minutes or so before we could be seated, very friendy, then the other nasty (older latina) which we could barely understand, yell at the other for making us wait. ???? (Party of 8) We were lucky enough to have the younger nice one take care of our table, routinely check on us but on 1 occasion we needed something and asked the older lady and was told YOU ARE NOT MY TABLE WHERE IS YOUR WAITRESS SHE CAN'T DO HER JOB I CAN'T HELP YOU. Horrible!!! it was 1 thing and we just forgot to ask the other gal when she was there. Then there is the food, some of the fish tasted old or as though it had previous freezer burn but for the most part most of it was pretty good for the price but the wait was ridiculous, the kitchen items came out farely quick (20 minutes) but we ate all hot items and waited another 45 minutes for our sushi. I might go there for lunch or a late dinner but never again at 5:30, we didn't leave until 8:15 or so by the time the nasty waitress brought our bill. OH THAT'S THE LAST THING, our nice waitress who seemed to have to help ALL of the tables doesn't even get the tip, per the nasty waitress everything is split, with a large smile across her face.

At Your Own Risk. Over the years I have eaten at scores of Japanese restaurants. Kabuki is a challenge to review, because it offers good fare (especially its sweet raw shrimp), but its service is routinely bad, and the chefs sometimes confuse orders. I ate at Kabuki perhaps 15 times before I stopped visiting. I was sent wrong orders, given ice cream with freezer frost, left unattended for 45 minutes by my server on one occasion, and overcharged for sake. One of the worst things about Kabuki is that the restaurant only has about three long-playing albums so if you return there, you will hear the same songs played endlessly. Additionally, sometimes the restaurant closes without prior notice, so when you show up for lunch or dinner, the doors are locked.
