The Scene
This lavish destination resort opened its doors in 2000 and instantly made a favorable first impression on in-the-know, spa-loving travelers. Its name comes from a combination of the city's namesake saint and the Chumash Indian word for mirage, and its style is a cross between Spanish Mission and breezy California contemporary. As for the setting, it doesn't get any better, tucked between the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains on a cliff just north of Santa Barbara.

The Details
Each posh guest room in this white stucco sanctuary offers ocean or mountain views. The pool area and surrounding 78 acres provide plenty of romping ground for the resort's beautiful guests. A round of golf, a hard day of guided hiking or a dip in the surf is even more sublime when you know you've got a vast wine cellar (over 500 wines) and Frette linens waiting for you back at the hotel.

We always have a fantastic stay at Bacara. Great service, nice spa and just a short walk to the beach. Highly recommended.

I adore this resort. The spa is amazing, and the grounds are gorgeous. You're also a short walk from the beach. Watch for celebrity sightings as well! The rooms are comfortable and luxurious. Highly recommended!

The restaurants could use some improvement as far as service and quality of food. We had some ok to not so good food here at the hotel. Because it is so far from downtown, there is really nowhere else closeby to go eat. We had dinner at their Miro restaurant which was such a bad dining experience.. no atmosphere, unusually quite and the wait for the food painfully long. It took almost four hours for a three course meal, in which half of our party left before the third course. Eight hundred dollars later, I left hungry. The pool is beautiful and the service by the pool I found excellent, but overall a disappointing experience. This was my second stay here and I think my last.
